Early Blaze: “Early Jonathan”

We like to call Early Blaze an “early Jonathan” because it is a great tart baking apple early in the season. It is a cross between Jonathan and Grimes Golden, and is crisp and mildly tart, with just the right mixture of sweetness and zip for fresh-off-the-tree eating. It’s smooth, striped, cherry-red skin makes it an attractive option for salads as well.

Its firm flesh is slow to brown, and it holds up well for baking as well as fresh eating.
