Fried Tuttles Apples

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup plain yogurt
1 large egg
6 Tuttles apples
Canola Oil for frying
1/2 cup sugar
1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon

I could write endlessly about how amazing these deep fried apples are! Invite your family and friends over ASAP to share these mouthwatering treats with them.  They won’t want to leave (until you run out of supplies at least…)

In a mixing bowl, whisk together your flour, baking powder and salt. Set this aside.

In another bowl, whisk together the yogurt and egg. Whisk your yogurt mixture into the flour mixture.

Slice your apples. I used Gold Rush but any eating or baking apple would be good! Try to get them around 1/4 inch thick. I used my mandolin slicer on the largest setting. I couldn’t find anything around the house that was a good punch for the middle of my apples so I cut out the “rings” with a small knife. I didn’t put too much effort into making them perfectly circled because it won’t affect the taste!

In a large and deep skillet, heat the oil over medium heat to 375 degrees. I used my candy thermometer to monitor the heat. Mix together your sugar and cinnamon. Once you are up to 375 degrees, dip the apple rings you have made in the batter and set them into the skillet for about 1 minute or until golden brown. Turn them over if needed.

Pull out the rings and place them in a bowl or pan. While they are still hot, sprinkle with your cinnamon and sugar mixture. They are best while warm but just as good even after a couple of hours. I’m not sure about after that because mine were all gone due to the fact that we couldn’t stop going back for more…

YUM! It’s really easy to tell when they are ready to be pulled out. I kept the thermometer attached while I was frying but it isn’t necessary.
