10 Thanksgiving Ideas from the Tuttle Family to Yours:
- Fall Harvest Salad: we use the mixed winter lettuce greens and head lettuce from our high tunnels and include the following toppings: cubed and sauteed butternut squash, dried cranberries, apple slices, sugared walnuts, apple chips, hard boiled eggs, feta cheese. We like to use the Rhubarb Salad Dressing recipe made from frozen rhubarb.
- The easiest veggie ever: Open a bag of the frozen Super Sweet White Corn and heat in the microwave. This corn taste like summer sweet corn without all the work of making it.
- Add some fall flavor to your stuffing: we like to mix apple chunks and dried cranberries with our box of instant stuffing mix. The dressing is also really great inside of Acorn Squash as an evening dinner idea.
- Hot Cider: of course you need hot cider to enjoy with your pie after dinner. Add the hot cider spice packet to your crock pot in a tea bag or if you don’t have the spice some pumpkin pie spice works great.
- Sweet Onion Casserole: This is one of Virginia’s favorite recipes. It uses the sweet onions and the Purdue Swiss Cheese. It may not sound good, but it is quite yummy!
- Use Cow Pie Pumpkins for Pumpkin Pie. We think it’s just a bit smoother then the small pie pumpkins.
- Apple Cranberry Cake. This is a really yummy one! Moist, easy to make, and relatively healthy dessert.
- Bake a frozen pie (yes, even we use the frozen ones…we don’t always bake them from scratch). Our family’s favorite is the Apple Cranberry. We have lots of take and bake pies available in the Farm Store.
- If we are going to make a pie, Benjamin makes some great berry and cherry pies. He says the secret to great pies is to pre cook pie filling using frozen berries and cherries.
- Sweet Potatoes and Apples– a simple and delicious side!
